Diamond Head Crater
Oahu, Hawaii

Diamond Head Crater is located on the south coast of Oahu, on the east end of Waikiki Beach. The Hawaiian name for Diamond head Crater is "Leahi".

How Diamond Head Crater Was Formed
Diamond Head is a volcanic crater that has been extinct for more the 150,000 years. The crater is approximately 760 feet high and 3500 feet in diameter. It's total area is about 350 acres and it is wider then it is high. The southwest rim of the crater is the highest because winds blew the ash in that direction during the erruption. Most scientists believe Diamond Head Crater was created about 300,000 years ago during a single brief eruption.
