The Aloha Tower was designed by Hawaii architect
Arthur Reynolds in a combination of art deco and
late gothic revival style. Constructed was completed
1926 and the tower was opened on September 11 of that year.
The tower is 10 stories and more then 180 feet
tall and for forty years it was the tallest building in Hawaii.
Near the top of the tower there are observation decks,
two large clocks, and the word "Aloha" in large letters
that can be seen from quite a distance away.
During the 1930's and 1940's the tower was one of the
most well-known landmarks in Hawaii and cruise ship visitors
became excited when they could see it from as far away as 15
miles out to sea. Since the 1950's the tower ha not been
as visible from sea because of construction in the area.
In the heyday of cruise ship transportation "Boat Days"
or "Steamer Days" were a popular entertainment in Honolulu.
Hula dancers and bands would greet the arriving ships
and the locals would also join in the fun. Today visitors
to Hawaii can still join in the fun of Boat Days. For

In the 1990's the pier area around the Aloha Tower was
